I read a story on Fox about a couple of political candidates in Montana. The Senator, a man named Sheehy, is a veteran who was wounded in Afghanistan. The woman, McKnight, was a candidate for city commissioner. Several months ago, she disagreed with a decision the Senator made, and called to leave him a voice mail about it. Among other things, she said:
I hope you get pancreatic cancer and die before they fix it.
I hope your children hate you.
I hope you’re infertile.
I hope you die in the street like a dog.
And she warned him not to meet her “on the streets” because she’d make him regret it.
She called it justified rage. Said she would never say those things in front of her grandma or kids. She said she didn’t think a former military man would be hurt by such language.
The voice mail was released to media, and the backlash was strong. McKnight received threats resulting from the release. And this woman, who wants to represent her city, blamed the Senator for the threats, stating that his actions caused it.
Um, no, ma’am, YOU caused it. YOU. And when they asked if she really meant she’d hurt him, this woman, part of a party that stresses that women and men are equal, responded that she couldn’t hurt him because she was a woman. She reportedly said “I’m a 30 year old woman who doesn’t work out and isn’t a very good shot and he’s a military man with a security detail.
On Monday, she said she stood by her voice mail, although she did think she could’ve been a little more tactful. She has since apologized because in her “heart of hearts” she didn’t mean it, despite doubling down on the sentiments if not the actual words multiple times.
Y’all. This woman is unhinged. If I robbed a bank, and got shot, I can’t blame the cops. MY actions caused it. She has no sense of personal accountability, or decorum. And she wants to be an elected official. Just stop. Go sit somewhere till you learn manners and you learn how to be a grown up.
She was fired from her job because of backlash to her voice mail. The business itself is closed indefinitely because of backlash. (Really not their fault , but that’s what happened.)
She received the fewest votes in her party during the election but she still received TWENTY percent of the votes. I really hope it’s just because she has a big family or something.
Is Sheehy a good man who is blameless in all things? Beats me. But is she wrong for doing this and then blaming the consequences on the Senator? Absolutely.
