My son graduated this year…and he got gifts. Well, mostly he got money and gift cards, but still…thank you notes are in order. Right? I’m old, and I think they are. He says nobody does them anymore.
We’ve been at war. He finally consented to sign them if I wrote them. I ended up typing them, because a) I’m lazy, and b) I can copy and paste a lot quicker than disguising my handwriting. Even if my son did them all on his own, he would’ve had to type them out. That child, based on his handwriting, is either going to be a doctor or a serial killer.
But here’s where it’s weird. Some people don’t want thank you cards. A verbal “thanks” is good enough. They know they’re just going to throw them away, so why should you waste the paper and stamp to send them? On the other hand, some people believe skipping a thank you note is a crime punishable by death. And you better send a thank you note to the executioner.
I’m erring on the side of caution and sending them out. The next thing he’ll need thank you cards for should be his wedding, and that, my friends, is his wife’s problem :-)
